| The emergency department at Good Shepherd Medical Center - Marshall is designated as a level III trauma center by the state of Texas.
Doctors are board-certified trauma physicians, and all registered nurses and staff have received specialized training and trauma certifications in their particular fields. Level III trauma also means that the surgical department physicians all have certifications in advanced trauma life support and all surgical nurses hold their respective trauma certifications as well. The trauma designation also means that advanced equipment and technology is available.
The trauma system places a patient in a specific track through the entire hospitalization process.
